Cambridge Workers Cottage, Cambridge

This extension and reworking of a Victorian workers terrace in Cambridge forms a new garden room in order to connect the house more intimately with the small courtyard garden. Our approach also included lowering the floor level of the new additions, making the sitting areas on grade with the garden. The large pivot door and picture window are designed to offer a clear connection out, bringing the outside in.

The project focuses on a native pallette of materials from douglas fir to Cambridge stock brick. We added a new timber frame to the existing brick cottage with a new glazed end wall creating a light filled garden room, increasing the spatious quality of the existing living, and kitchen/dining rooms.
